PACIFIC MISSILE RANGE FACILITY, KEKAHA, HAWAII – The Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) has reopened its guest pass access program for select recreational sites following Hurricane Lowell.
Hurricane recovery operations across the installation remain ongoing, however, some recreational areas sustained minimal damage during the storm, and personnel were able to safely restore select sites for guest recreational use.
The following PMRF recreational sites are now open to current guest pass holders:
Beach access is currently allowed from Shenanigans and Kinikini Ditch access sites only. Shenanigans Restaurant and deck and access to Waiapua’a Bay and Trail remain closed.
The PMRF Recreational Guest Pass Program allows passholders access to the above-mentioned recreational sites and services on base between the hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, unless noted otherwise and is subject to change without notice. The Navy Exchange (NEX) and the NEX gas station is not an authorized use of the PMRF guest pass program.
PMRF Guest Pass Applications: No new guest pass applications will be processed as the installation prioritizes recovery operations across the installation. The Pass and ID office will resume the processing of new applications when recovery efforts allow.
Notice to Motorists: Follow all speed limits and traffic signs. No parking on the side of the road. There is an increase in nēnē population on base. All motorists are advised to slow down near native wildlife and stop for nēnē crossing. Nene Breeding and Nesting Season is from Sept. through Apr.
Dark Skies at PMRF: PMRF has initiated its Dark Skies during shearwater fledging season from Sept. 15 through Dec. 15. All non-essential lights will be turned off at sunset and essential lights are shielded. PMRF appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as base personnel continue recovery work to restore services in a safe and deliberate manner. Limiting access and prioritizing recovery crews help ensure the safety of personnel and support efficient hurricane recovery operations.
