Coast Guard medevacs ailing woman on Beaver Island

CLEVELAND — The Coast Guard medevaced a 69-year-old woman experiencing a medical emergency on Beaver Island in Lake Michigan Tuesday.

The woman was reportedly experiencing severe abdominal pain.

Emergency services contacted Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes watchstanders at 3:29 p.m. requesting aerial transport for the woman from Beaver Island Airport.

A Coast Guard Air Station Detroit MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew already en route to Air Station Traverse City diverted, embarked local paramedics and arrived at Beaver Island at 4 p.m. The aircrew and paramedics brought the woman aboard the helicopter and transported her to Air Station Traverse City, where local emergency medical services transferred her to further medical care.
