NAS Patuxent River held a ribbon cutting Sept. 1 for the new Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Recreation and Liberty Center at Pax River.
The dual purpose building serves as a one-stop-shop for all MWR patrons. The Community Recreation Center side is open to all hands for ticket sales, special events, leisure skills classes, outdoor recreation equipment rentals, bus trips, and information on the base and local area. The Liberty Center is open to all E1-E6 active duty personnel to provide a space for single sailors to hang out, play video games, watch tv/movies, play pool, utilize MWR laptops and WiFi, play the drums/guitars in the music room as well as join in on Liberty only activities. The ribbon cutting is the culmination of the Pax River MWR staff’s work towards a more convenient and accessible location for all their patrons.
“We are most excited about the new location and being so close to the gate,” said Jennifer Beavers, NAS Patuxent River Community Recreation Director. “We are also excited about the expanded space for our Liberty Center and being able to offer more programming for our Junior Sailors.”
Beavers added special thanks to the MWR maintenance team for all the work put in to the new facility, providing painting, new floors, countertops, cabinets, and walls to the space.
