CHEYENNE, Wyo. Sept. 16, 2026 — The Wyoming Air National Guard will host Discovery Day 2026: A Salute to STEAM, a free hands-on science, technology, engineering, art and math event for school-age students, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24 at 217 Dell Range Blvd. in Cheyenne.
Attendance is arranged through schools and educators. The event is not open to the general public as a walk-in event, and students may not attend without a registered educator.
Discovery Day is an annual event designed to inspire youth, spark creativity, encourage innovation and show the possibilities awaiting the rising generation.
Students will enter a large aircraft hangar and explore dozens of exhibits demonstrating how STEAM and career and technical education fields are applied in the workforce. Larger displays, including aircraft and ground vehicles, will be staged outside the hangar. Planned activities include drones, simulators, virtual reality, robotics, live electrical demonstrations, computer programming, artificial intelligence, aviation and static aircraft displays.
More than 25 exhibitors are scheduled to take part, among them Laramie County Community College, the University of Wyoming, Eastern Wyoming College, Aims Community College, Spartan College, United Airlines, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, the Wyoming Army National Guard and the Wyoming Air National Guard, along with local businesses, medical providers, construction firms and artists.
Lunch will be provided free of charge to all participants and served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pizza, cookies, water and Gatorade will be available. Attendees with special dietary needs should plan to bring a lunch.
Educators must register their groups in advance so organizers can plan logistics and support each group's needs. Registration is available at https://forms.osi.apps.mil/r/CKiUG0y9rA.
Adults should bring a school-issued identification card, which grants entry to the installation without additional screening. Students 17 and younger are granted access provided they arrive on the bus with their group.
Homeschool students are welcome, but base access must be arranged in advance. Homeschool parents and teachers must contact the event point of contact to be added to the Entry Authority List, which is required for access to the installation. Walk-up access is not guaranteed on the day of the event; however, the access validation process takes approximately 15 minutes.
