CONR-1AF (AFNORTH & AFSPACE) Welcomes Lt. Gen. Everman as New Commander

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region – First Air Force (Air Forces Northern and Air Forces Space) leadership changed hands during a ceremony at Tyndall Air Force Base, Sept. 2, 2026.

Lt. Gen. Bradford R. Everman officially took the helm from Lt. Gen. M. Luke Ahmann as he received the command guidon, marking a seamless transfer of operational authority and round-the-clock responsibility.

Gen. Adrian Spain, Commander, Air Combat Command, presided over the ceremony, praising the command’s round-the-clock defense posture and joint operational readiness. Total force mission partners, civic leaders and distinguished military guests attended the event.

Prior to assuming command, Everman served as the Special Assistant to the NORAD and USNORTHCOM Commander for Reserve Matters at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado.

"Lt. Gen. Ahmann did an amazing job leading this team, and I could not be more excited to step in and continue the vital mission of First Air Force," Everman said. "Our job is to stay one, two, three steps ahead of anything that could threaten our nation. Whether that means unmanned aircraft, inbound ballistic missiles, manned aircraft, or natural disasters like hurricanes and wildfires. We are applying the lessons learned around the globe every day to ensure the nation remains safe and secure across our aerospace warning, aerospace control, maritime warning, and homeland defense missions.

As the commander of CONR-1AF (AFNORTH & AFSPACE), Everman directs three distinct operational missions across the air and space domains. In his CONR role under NORAD, Everman oversees airspace warning, air sovereignty and aerospace defense for the continental United States under Operation Noble Eagle. As the air component commander for USNORTHCOM, he leads air operations focused on homeland defense and defense support of civil authorities during national emergencies and natural disasters. Additionally, as the air component commander to U.S. Space Command, he directs theater air support, contingency rescue operations and worldwide search and recovery support for human space flight missions.

On the service side, First Air Force is one of four numbered air forces assigned to Air Combat Command. The organization trains, equips, and oversees full-time active-duty service members, National Guard and Reserve personnel, and the civilian volunteers of the Civil Air Patrol.
