Michael A. Lueckeman, Garrison Commander, White Sands Missile Range, was the guest speaker at the Rio Grande Honor Flight ceremony on September 05, 2026, in Las Cruces, NM, where he addressed and thanked a group of local veterans participating in the Honor Flight program.
Honor Flight Rio Grande serves veterans from Southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, by transporting them at no cost to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor. The program focuses on veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
“Your service came during one of the most complex and challenging conflicts our nation has ever faced. The hardships you endured—both in uniform and upon returning home—are chapters of American history that must never be overlooked,” said Lueckeman. “Today, with absolute clarity, we say: thank you.”
Lueckeman emphasized to the veterans that what they did is significant and that their story matters. “Who you are, what you did, and why you did it matters, and it must never be forgotten.”
This ceremony was part of the lead‑up to the 22nd Honor Flight, which will depart on September 24 and is scheduled to return on September 26. During this multi‑day trip to Washington, D.C., the veterans will visit:
“Our nation needs you to share your story… I encourage you to share your experiences. Share the moments that shaped you—the challenges overcome, the friendships forged, and the lessons learned and carried forward,” said Lueckeman. “It is my honor to stand with you as part of Honor Flight 22. You have more than earned this moment of recognition.”
