U.S. Naval Hospital Rota Receives Gold Star Blue H Award

ROTA, Spain — U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Rota received the Gold Star level of the 2025 Navy Surgeon General’s Blue H Health Promotion and Wellness Award for its efforts to promote healthier lifestyles and strengthen readiness across the Naval Station Rota community.

The Gold Star is the highest level of recognition offered through the Blue H program. The annual award evaluates health-promotion programs, command policies and activities designed to improve the well-being of service members, civilian employees and beneficiaries.

Earning the award reflects the hospital’s comprehensive approach to preventive health. Its efforts support key areas such as physical activity, healthy eating, psychological well-being, responsible drinking, tobacco-free living, injury prevention and weight management.

The recognition also highlights the collaboration between the Health Promotion and Wellness team, hospital leadership, staff members and community partners. Their combined efforts help community members access reliable information and practical resources for making healthier choices.

Promoting wellness contributes directly to military readiness by helping service members remain fit for duty while improving the health and quality of life of the wider community. Through education and prevention, USNH Rota works to address health risks before they affect individuals or the mission.

Receiving the 2025 Gold Star Blue H Award demonstrates USNH Rota’s commitment to sustaining a healthy, resilient and mission-ready community.

Strategically positioned on the Iberian Peninsula, the hospital plays a critical role in defending, restoring, and elevating the health of warfighters and their families. USNH Rota provides ready, reliable care to 8,400 service members and their families.
