Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Walter McCall, Fort McCoy Garrison chaplain, opened the installation’s Aug. 27 garrison town hall with a prayer focused on wisdom, leadership, relationships and the continued mission of Fort McCoy.
McCall opened the town hall in Building 905 by inviting those attending to pray according to their individual faith traditions.
In his prayer, McCall asked for wisdom and guidance for those leading Fort McCoy and for the installation’s continued support of the Army mission.
“I thank you that all wisdom truly does come from you,” McCall said.
McCall also prayed for truthfulness and strong relationships as the installation moves forward under the new garrison command team of Col. Sarah Fraticelli, garrison commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. James Riddle, garrison command sergeant major.
He asked for continued guidance, grace and strength for the leadership team as it carries out the responsibilities of leading the garrison.
The prayer set the tone for Fraticelli’s first town hall with the Fort McCoy workforce, which included updates from the garrison command team, Fort McCoy Exchange, Directorate of Public Works, and Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
McCall’s role at Fort McCoy reflects the broader mission of the Religious Support Office, which provides religious support, pastoral care and opportunities for spiritual growth to Soldiers, Department of War civilian employees, families, and others throughout the installation.
McCall has also participated in numerous Fort McCoy ceremonies and community events during 2026, including the Armed Forces Day Open House and the opening of the installation’s Main Gate Microgrid with Battery Backup Project.
At the April 2026 garrison town hall, McCall similarly opened the event with an invocation focused on wisdom, leadership and guidance for those serving at Fort McCoy.
The Aug. 27 invocation continued that tradition while marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Fort McCoy garrison under Fraticelli's leadership.
The Religious Support Office continues to provide worship opportunities, counseling, religious education and other support services for the Fort McCoy community.
Fort McCoy’s motto beginning in 2026 is “Training the Total Force and Shaping the Future since 1909.” The installation’s mission: “Fort McCoy strengthens Total Force Readiness by serving as a training center, Mobilization Force Generation Installation, and Strategic Support Area enabling warfighter lethality to deploy, fight, and win our nation’s wars.”
And Fort McCoy’s vision is, “To be the premier training center supporting the most capable, combat-ready, and lethal armed forces.”
Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin. The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services nearly every year since 1984.
