Indianapolis-area service members participate in the annual Danish Fylver March

Twenty-one members of the 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and down-trace units participated in the annual Danish Flyver march on Friday, August 28th, at Stout Field, the state headquarters installation for the Indiana National Guard.

In total, 29 service members completed the march, including Army, Army Reserve, Navy, and Marine Corps. Motivation was evident throughout the event, with some service members walking and others choosing to run.

Spc. Raynard Wamble never doubted his ability to cross the finish line, thanks to his training regimen that included running three to six miles as a warm-up before heading straight into heavy gym sessions. Prior to the March, he focused on cardio, stretching, and weight training, building the stamina needed to sustain running for most of the event.

“I'm very grateful for everyone that I met at the March, and can honestly say that every Soldier at this unit has inspired me to be better,” said Wamble.

The Danish Flyver March (Flyvermarchen or Royal Danish Air Force March) is a 20-kilometer (12.4-mile) military ruck march designed to build physical endurance, resilience, and camaraderie across allied forces.

The event is held at the end of August each year. It emphasizes mental resilience and morale and began in 1972, when the Royal Danish Army established the first DANCON March during a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus.
