BEMOWO PISKIE, Poland — For nearly two decades, U.S. Soldiers have conducted rotational deployments to Eastern Europe.
For Soldiers from the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team (1ABCT), 1st Armored Division (1AD), that mission includes Poland, with Camp Trzebien near Boleslawiec serving as one of their primary training locations on NATO’s eastern flank.
There, the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment (2-37 AR), 1ABCT, 1AD, completed gunnery qualification before moving east to another training area in Poland.
Soldiers from the 2-37 AR arrived at Bemowo Piskie Training Area (BPTA) in July and August 2026 to assume the mission of the NATO Forward Land Forces (FLF) Battle Group-Poland.
As Soldiers arrived, so did equipment, including Bradley fighting vehicles and Abrams tanks.
After arriving at the training area, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Steven Saxion, the battalion commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Jason Wargo, the battalion’s command sergeant major, 2-37 AR and NATO FLF Battle Group-Poland, participated in military and cultural events commemorating Polish victories from the 15th through the 20th centuries. They also conducted additional training to integrate with the battle group.
“Moving to BPTA and taking on the mission of the battle group has been a huge positive for the battalion,” said Saxion. “The NATO mission here gives our Soldiers a purpose they can understand and support.”
The NATO FLF Battle Group-Poland, which includes Romanian, Croatian, British, and U.S. forces, will commemorate the multinational battle group’s anniversary at BPTA in September. The event also marks the 20th anniversary of BPTA as a Polish training garrison.
Speaking about his Soldiers, Saxion said, “They really enjoy training alongside our allies, giving them lifelong memories. We truly are stronger together.”
At BPTA, U.S. and allied forces demonstrate their commitment to supporting Poland and strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defense along the alliance’s eastern flank.
