“Ever since I was a little kid, I knew I wanted to serve somehow, some way,” says U.S. Army Spc. Cole Bechtold, 190th Chemical Reconnaissance Detachment, Montana Army National Guard, competing in the Region VI Best Warrior Competition.
Bechtold joined the National Guard to serve his country while remaining in his home state of Montana. During his more than five years of service, he has developed a stronger work ethic and a greater appreciation for the opportunities and support waiting for him at home.
Through the Best Warrior Competition, Bechtold hopes to identify areas for personal and professional growth while testing himself against some of the National Guard’s top competitors. He enjoys meeting Soldiers from across the country and learning from their different experiences, cultures, and perspectives.
"They're (the competitors) the best of their state, so it's awesome to come here and compete against them."
Bechtold takes great pride in representing Montana and his hometown of Huntley on the regional stage. He considers parachuting from a CH-47 Chinook helicopter to be one of the most memorable experiences of his military career. His dedication to duty reflects his commitment to continuous self-improvement, service, and readiness as a Soldier in the Montana Army National Guard.
