“My favorite part of the Best Warrior Competition is the camaraderie between others who are also trying to be their best. I love seeing people that want to be their best,” says U.S. Army Sgt. John Shrock, a computer detection systems repairer with Delta Detachment, 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, North Dakota Army National Guard, competing in the Region VI Best Warrior Competition.
Shrock joined the National Guard five years ago out of a desire to serve his country and defend the values that define the United States. He views the competition as an opportunity to challenge himself, identify his strengths, and learn from some of the National Guard’s top Soldiers. Competing alongside Soldiers from across the region has motivated him to continue improving while reinforcing the importance of teamwork and professional development.
"These Soldiers are very good, it makes me realize I need to train more and get better."
Shrock hopes to bring the lessons learned during the competition back to his unit to help fellow Soldiers improve their skills and readiness. His dedication to duty reflects his commitment to personal growth, teamwork, and serving something greater than himself.
