FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – Lt. Col. Robert M. Cuthie assumed command of the Fort Indiantown Gap National Guard Training Center during a change-of-command ceremony here, Aug. 29. Cuthie succeeded Col. Kevin D. Potts, who had served as the training center’s commander since 2022. Pennsylvania National Guard Deputy Adjutant General-Army Maj. Gen. Michael E. Wegscheider presided over the ceremony, which symbolized the transfer of authority and responsibility from the outgoing commander to the incoming commander in front of family, friends, and distinguished guests. “Fort Indiantown Gap is a premier training site, and leading it requires dedication, strategic vision, and a commitment to our service members, their families and our neighbors” Wegscheider said. “Colonel Potts has done an outstanding job of maintaining its readiness and excellence, and I have full confidence that Lieutenant Colonel Cuthie will continue this legacy of superb leadership.” During his tenure, Potts oversaw major infrastructure enhancements and supported numerous large-scale training exercises for joint, interagency, and international forces. In his farewell remarks, Potts thanked the training center’s staff for their hard work and dedication. “It has been the privilege of my career to lead the professionals here at Fort Indiantown Gap,” Potts said. “Our success is a direct result of your dedication to ensuring our nation’s forces are prepared for any mission. I know you will provide Lieutenant Colonel Cuthie with that same exceptional support.” Cuthie, an experienced leader within the Pennsylvania National Guard, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to command the prestigious training installation. “I am deeply honored to take command of Fort Indiantown Gap,” Cuthie said. “This installation plays a vital role in our state and national defense. I look forward to working with our talented team to build upon our past successes and ensure that Fort Indiantown Gap remains the training site of choice for units throughout the United States military.” Immediately following the change-of-command ceremony, Cuthie was promoted to the rank of colonel in an additional brief ceremony. Wegscheider pinned the new rank insignia onto Cuthie, who was joined by members of his family. Fort Indiantown Gap is consistently one of the busiest National Guard training center in the United States, supporting more than 100,000 service members annually from all branches of the military, as well as state and local law enforcement agencies.
