WARSAW, Poland — Poland marked Armed Forces Day on Aug. 15, 2026, commemorating its victory over Soviet forces in the 1920 Battle of Warsaw. The country’s largest military parade highlighted NATO unity and Poland’s efforts to strengthen the alliance’s eastern flank.
U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Christopher R. Norrie, acting commanding general of U.S. Army Europe and Africa, attended the parade, which featured the NATO Forward Land Forces Battle Group-Poland as part of V Corps’ ready forces in Europe.
The multinational contingent included the U.S. 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, also known as 2-37 AR; the British Army’s Light Dragoons; Romania’s 348th Air Defense Artillery Battalion; and the 17th Croatian contingent. U.S. Abrams tanks, British Jackals, and Romanian Flakpanzer Gepard air-defense vehicles moved along the parade route alongside Polish vehicles and other military equipment, demonstrating allied readiness.
Units assigned to the NATO FLF Battle Group-Poland build readiness and interoperability through multinational exercises, training, and cooperation at the Bemowo Piskie Training Area in Poland.
“The Polish Armed Forces Day parade in Warsaw was a great experience for the NATO FLF Battle Group,” said Capt. Tyler Hensley, commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-37 AR. “We enjoyed working with our partners and allies. It was an honor to be part of something that families and friends could see and enjoy.”
President Karol Nawrocki said Poland knows the price of independence and freedom and emphasized the country’s commitment to remembering the past while safeguarding its present and future.
