Beyond the Standard: The Role of Guardian Resiliency Teams

Mission Delta 6, 66th Cyberspace Squadron, Detachment 1, utilized the Schriever SFB Guardian Resiliency Team’s (GRT) 12-week, Walk-to-Run program to boost unit fitness scores on Schriever SFB, Colorado, beginning March 27, 2026.

GRT used the program to assist with the 66 CYS, Det 1, following a low passing rate on the unit’s Diagnostic Health Performance Assessment.

“Of the assigned personnel, multiple members failed their Diagnostic Health Performance Assessment, resulting in a pass rate of only 40.6% and placing unit fitness readiness at considerable risk,” said U.S. Space Force Tech. Sgt. Joshua Bundgard, cyberspace operator, 66 Cyberspace Squadron, Detachment 1.

Within approximately 65 days, while following the Walk-to-Run program, the unit pass rate for the detachment raised from 40.6% to 100%. Additionally, 24% of personnel achieved a score of 95 or higher, with the unit average being 91 points.

The Walk-To-Run program involves three structured runs per week; a tempo run, a long run and an interval session.

“The minimalist structure allows for better recovery, improves adherence and accommodates additional training goals like strength and mobility work,” said Dr. Jason Soileau, GRT holistic health integrator. "Ultimately, this program will help one to perform better in Human Performance Assessments and meet the physical demands of their job with less wear and tear.”

GRT uses the Walk-to-Run program along with others to help other units across Schriever SFB to maintain fitness readiness standards and ensure that all Guardians remain able to effectively execute their mission critical roles.

Another way GRT ensures fitness standards are met is by the certification of over 500 Peer Fitness Leaders (PFL), entrusted to lead their unit through effective physical training sessions. These PFLs ensure that their individual units meet and exceed fitness standards while solidifying a culture of fitness.

“Whether through performative care, medical and mental health support, or proactive skill-building, we optimize Guardian readiness,” said Dr. Soileau “By taking a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to human performance, we ensure our Guardians remain resilient, focused and fully equipped to execute their important and necessary missions every day.”

The Schriever SFB GRT’s mission is to ensure all Guardians remain physically and mentally fit to face any challenge while performing their crucial duties. They accomplish this mission through programs like the Walk-to-Run program and educate guardians on how to keep themselves and their peers fit and ready for anything.
