The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, awarded a $24.5 million contract to Cooper Tacia General Contracting Company, of Atlanta, to construct a new Child Development Center at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Aug. 3.
The approximately 37,300-square-foot facility will serve up to 338 children, ages 6 weeks to under 6 years, providing modern childcare that supports military Families and Army readiness.

"This project demonstrates our commitment to delivering modern facilities that improve the quality of life for Soldiers, Army Civilians and their Families. We are proud to partner with Fort Jackson to provide a safe, modern learning environment that supports those who serve."
Reliable childcare enables Soldiers and Army Civilians to focus on their missions while knowing their children are receiving quality care. The new facility will expand childcare capacity at Fort Jackson and provide a modern environment designed to meet the needs of military Families.
Construction is expected to begin this fall.
The project reflects the partnership among the Charleston District, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Jackson and Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation to deliver infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for military Families.

The Child Development Center is part of the Army's ongoing investment in installation infrastructure that supports military readiness, resilience and the well-being of military Families.
