U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart’s Directorate of Emergency Services hosted a National Night Out Event on August 4 at Panzer, Kelley, Patch and Robinson housing areas.
Military Police performed “slow rolls” as they moved through the neighborhoods, handing out candy and leaflets about back-to-school safety.
“Even with the mixed weather across the Kasernes, the night was a huge win, “ said U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart Chief of Police Mark Pursel, referencing the evening storms brought on by the region’s heatwave. “We made over 200 community contacts, handed out a ton of lollipops and got those joint safety flyers into parents' hands.”
Pursel thanked the 554th MPs, the USAG Stuttgart Safety Office, and German Polizei partners, all of which participated in the event.
“The biggest highlight was over on Kelley,” he said. “Our MPs and the German Polizei walked the housing park together, chatting with families and letting the kids turn on the lights and sirens in the Polizei cruiser. It was a massive hit.”
Pursel is hopeful that members of the community will keep the momentum going, stay focused on safety and continue to be great communicators with local law enforcement.
