Laurianne “Coach” Allard, from Portland, Maine, was the Kindergarten - 5th Grade Elementary Physical Education Teacher at Rota Elementary School onboard Naval Station Rota before retiring at the beginning of this July after 10 years in the role. Before that, Allard was the MWR Fitness Director on base from 2001 to 2015. Allard’s daily duties as the Elementary Physical Education teacher included developing student excellence by creating daily lessons in sports, fitness, active games, character traits, and having fun. “My favorite thing about my job is the joy of moving and exercising with the students,” stated Allard. Allard also implemented and helped oversee the annual Elementary School Field Day event and was the lead for Europe South physical education focused collaboration lead. Outside of school, Coach Allard obviously enjoys working out, but she also loves dancing, traveling, going on new adventures, and spending time with her friends, family, and grandchildren. “I have retired, but everyday I try to follow the student PE motto: ‘Go Be Great!’”
