KABUL, Afghanistan - A 9-year-old Afghan boy was medically evacuated by Afghan and coalition forces Thursday in Badghis province, Bala Murghab District, due to blast wounds as a result of an unexploded rocket initially launched by insurgents.

A rocket was shot at the security force while on patrol, which did not explode on impact. Before the security team could disarm it, the boy kicked the unexploded rocket, which caused it to burst into flames, and subsequently injure the boy.

The boy was medically evacuated by Afghan international security forces so he could receive the proper medical treatment for intensive internal stomach injuries and punctures to the right forearm.
