NUWC Division, Keyport Employee Spotlight: Ono Quiroz

Sustaining our warfighting advantage requires a dedicated team of experts committed to Fleet readiness. Among these experts is Arnoldo “Ono” Quiroz. During his eight years so far at NUWC Division, Keyport, Ono has proven himself as an exceptionally reliable, dedicated supply systems analyst.

“His genuine eagerness to learn and his consistently positive demeanor are what I appreciate most,” said his supervisor. “Ono's unique contribution to the team is a combination of his deep knowledge base, an unfailingly positive attitude and a truly outstanding work ethic. He has a natural ability to uplift team morale, which makes him a tremendous asset.”

A coworker added, “He is a go-to kind of employee that others seek out for assistance or training. What I appreciate most about working with Ono is his willingness to get the job done, help others, continue learning and mentoring junior employees. He is an outstanding leader showing integrity by wanting to get the task completed as quickly as possible and correctly.”

Ono was born and raised in San Jose, California. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the Navy as an aviation boatswain’s mate. He served aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) as a flight deck firefighter and first responder. He then completed a shore tour at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in China Lake, California. Over his eight years of service, he received a Navy Achievement Medal and multiple letters of commendation. He was honorably discharged in 2013 as a petty officer third class (E-4).

Following his active duty service, Ono used his G.I. Bill benefits to earn an associate degree in business administration from Olympic College, then spent two years doing warehousing and logistics work for the Navy Exchange Package Store in Bremerton, Washington. In 2018, he began working as a material handler at Naval Supply Systems Command/Fleet Logistics Center at Naval Base Kitsap-Keyport. In 2022, he began his current position at Keyport.

Ono’s work directly supports the second and third Naval Sea Systems Command Enterprise Strategy Lines of Effort: “Generate Readiness” and “Generate, Capture and Use Data.”

Outside of work, Ono enjoys spending time with his wife, an active-duty chief in the Navy, and his 12-year-old son. He also enjoys mountain biking, hiking, golfing and following the San Francisco 49ers.
