3d Radio Battalion activates Delta Company to support Marine Littoral Regiments

HONOLULU, Hawaii — 3d Radio Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, activates Delta Company during a ceremony at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, June 18, 2026, marking a significant step in the battalion's continued support of Force Design modernization efforts and Marine Littoral Regiment operations. The activation establishes Delta Company as the battalion's Infantry Support Company, specifically aligned to support 3d Marine Littoral Regiment and provide signals intelligence and electromagnetic warfare capabilities critical to the Marine Corps' stand-in force concept.

During the ceremony, Lt. Col. Sean F.X. Barrett, the commanding officer of 3d Rad Bn, formally activated the company and assigned Capt. Kevin Karaffa as its first commanding officer. First Sgt. Dantrell T. Prince assumed duties as the company's senior enlisted leader.

"The company is tailor-made to support the Marine Littoral Regiment," Barrett said. "You all embody what it means to modernize the force."

The activation of Delta Company represents a key component of the Marine Corps' Force Design initiative. According to Barrett, Delta Company was created to generate signals intelligence and electromagnetic warfare teams that directly support Marine Littoral Regiments, providing critical sensing capabilities that enable commanders to better understand and operate within the battlespace.

Barrett explained that each company within 3d Radio Battalion fulfills a distinct mission. Alpha Company and Delta Company are aligned to support the 12th and 3d Marine Littoral Regiments respectively, generating deployable teams that provide signals intelligence and electromagnetic warfare capabilities. Bravo Company supports the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, III MEF, while Charlie Company serves as the battalion's Operations Control and Analysis Center, housing analysts and command-and-control personnel who support ongoing operations and intelligence requirements across the Indo-Pacific.

As the battalion's newest operational element, Delta Company increases 3d Radio Battalion's ability to support distributed maritime operations by providing dedicated support to 3d Marine Littoral Regiment. Barrett noted that these capabilities are essential to the Marine Corps' ability to sense adversary activity, contribute to maritime domain awareness, and support targeting efforts across the joint force. The addition of Delta Company also improves the battalion's ability to organize, train and equip Marines for the growing demands of the Indo-Pacific theater.

Following the activation order, Karaffa addressed the Marines of Delta Company and emphasized his commitment to building a culture centered on readiness, professionalism and mission accomplishment. "I am so honored to serve every single one of you and to serve as your company commander," said Karaffa. "I promise I will give you every single ounce of what you deserve to effectively be prepared for our next stage of conflict."

The activation of Delta Company strengthens 3d Radio Battalion's capacity to provide expeditionary signals intelligence support to Marine Corps forces throughout the Indo-Pacific while advancing the Marine Corps' efforts to modernize the force and support Marine Littoral Regiment operations.
