KABUL, Afghanistan – A joint Afghan National Army and International Security Assistance Force patrol conducted a precision air strike in southern Afghanistan Tuesday, killing six insurgents who had fired mortars on their position during dismounted operations.

After engaging the insurgents and verifying their position, ANA and ISAF worked together to avoid civilian casualties and any collateral damage. The precision air strike was conducted in the western Arghandab valley on the outskirts of Kandahar City.

The patrol conducted a search of the area and found four improvised explosive devices and 40lbs of explosive material.

All six insurgents were killed in the strike.

“These insurgents indiscriminately attack the security forces with little regard for the innocent people of Afghanistan,” said U.S. Army Maj. Earl Brown, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “We will continue to pursue these criminals who endanger civilians and try at nothing to destabilize the region with violence.”
