Staff Sgt. Anna Aragon, 58th Maintenance Squadron Inspections Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Aerospace Ground Equipment, 58 MXS/MXMG, is leading an important safety program on base. Aragon runs the Kirtland Against Drunk Driving program helping to end drunk driving by giving safe rides home to Airmen and their families. The program is open to all active-duty members, their spouses, and dependents., and its goal is simple: make sure no one drives after drinking and everyone gets home safely. KADD runs on the first Friday and Saturday of every month from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Volunteers also support base events where alcohol may be served, like holiday parties, summer picnics, and the Air Force Ball. During these events, the team works from the Gravity Center or at the event location. On regular weekends, volunteers stay at home and wait for calls. If someone’s ride falls through or they realize they should not drive, KADD steps in to help. The program restarted because the base saw an increase in DUIs. KADD had been shut down for almost three years before she took charge. The team relaunched during the Air Force Ball last year to remind Airmen that safe options are always available. Since KADD drivers use their own cars, the team tries to keep rides within about 30 minutes, and volunteers may go farther if they choose to. “If you have something to drink and you are not okay to drive home, give us a call,” Aragon said. That’s what we’re here for.” The program is also looking for more volunteers. Aragon hopes drivers will share what area they live in so the team can respond faster when calls come in.
