GOWEN FIELD, BOISE, IDAHO— The Agile Phoenix team, a specialized four-man logistics team from Sierra Army Depot (SIAD), recently concluded an excess recovery mission at the Idaho Army National Guard (ARNG), completing what was scheduled as a four-week operation in a mere eight days. The rapid execution far exceeded the expectations of both the supported Unit and Army Materiel Command (AMC), returning millions of dollars of critical equipment to the enterprise to support global Army readiness.
The mission: clearing the books The team (Jason Tong, Josef Halangahu, Jamieson Daugherty, and Dustin McCoy) deployed to Idaho with a clear directive: collect, pack, and ship on-record excess material from the Reserve Unit’s Supply Support Activity (SSA). By targeting this excess, the team aimed to clear the Unit's books, relieving local logistical burdens while simultaneously recovering vital assets for the broader force. Operating with exceptional efficiency, the four-person element processed approximately 4,700 lines of material. In total, the recovered assets are valued at an estimated $11.3 million. The sheer volume of material required relentless coordination, but the team's streamlined approach allowed them to pull, pack, and prepare the shipments in a fraction of the allotted time.
Logistical triumph and global impact To move the massive quantity of recovered equipment, the team coordinated with SIAD’s Transportation department, Tanya Carruth on the loading of 11 flatbed trucks. The material is currently in transit back to SIAD. Upon arrival at SIAD, the excess material will undergo a critical next step: induction into the Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-A). This induction restores full enterprise-level accountability to the assets, making them immediately visible and available for future requisitions. The impact of this rapid recovery effort extends far beyond the Idaho ARNG. By returning $11.3 million worth of material to SIAD, the Army can now fill critical backorders for Units deployed and stationed across the world.
Exceeding expectations Completing a complex, month-long logistical operation in just eight days stands as a testament to the team's dedication and expertise. Their efforts not only optimized the Idaho ARNG SSA's footprint but also directly enhanced global Warfighter readiness, proving that a small, focused team can deliver outsized results for the enterprise.
