KABUL- The International Security Assistance Force confirmed Janut Gul, a Haqqani Network facilitator who was actively planning vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attacks for the Afghan parliamentary elections, was killed by a precision air strike Saturday.
Acting on intelligence tips, coalition forces tracked the facilitator from a compound to an open area in Sayyid Karam District.
After careful planning to ensure no civilians were present, coalition aircraft conducted a precision air strike against him.
Although a ground force was unable to conduct an immediate assessment of the engagement area, ISAF confirmed the facilitator and three of his associates were killed during the strike.
