Col. Matthew Foisy, 377th Security Forces Group commander, welcomed the crowd and shared opening remarks, saying,“The camaraderie we share in this professionof Law Enforcement and Security is unique because it is built on absolute, uncompromising trust.”
For the Air Force, Police Week isa time to recognize Security Forces Airmen and remember Defenders who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their bases,missionsand communities.
Throughout the week, the377 SFGheldseveral events, including a K-9 competition, ruck march, shooting competition and an obstacle coursechallenge,highlightingthe work Security Forces perform each day.
The weekendedwith a closing ceremony to honor Defenders past and present.AsCol. JustinSecrest, 377th Air Base Wing and installation commander,deliveredfinal remarks, he noted, “This week is about the men and women whodidn’tcome home. We are here to honor the professionals who stood the line when it mattered most.”
National Police Week wasestablishedin 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation naming May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week surrounding it as Police Week. Since then, communities across the country have used this time to honor law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
