Eighth Army Honors Top Junior Enlisted Soldiers at 52nd USO Six Star Service Salute Gala

CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea — Eighth Army honored 15 of its most distinguished junior enlisted Soldiers at the 52nd USO Six Star Service Salute Gala, April 23–24, 2026, recognizing the critical role these emerging leaders play in setting the theater across the Korean Peninsula.

Representing units from across the formation, this select group of Soldiers was chosen for demonstrating unmatched professionalism and a steadfast commitment to operational readiness. By upholding the highest standards of their profession, these honorees provide the foundational strength necessary for Eighth Army to “Fight Tonight.”

Among the honorees is Pfc. Kimberly Castillo, a human resources specialist assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, Eighth Army. Castillo’s relentless work ethic directly contributes to personnel readiness, which is a vital component of setting the theater. Her drive is anchored in a deep-seated motivation to serve others, ensuring her fellow Soldiers are administratively prepared, supported, and ready for any mission.

“I enjoy having the positive impact of helping others,” Castillo said. “I help Soldiers and their families by getting them what they need in their Army lives so that their personal lives can be good.”

Eighth Army leadership emphasized that the Soldiers selected for this honor are the standard-bearers for their formations. Setting the theater is not just a strategic concept; it is executed daily at the tactical level by junior enlisted Soldiers. Whether managing critical administrative systems or supporting major unit initiatives, these Soldiers consistently demonstrate the initiative and discipline required to maintain a ready and resilient force. Nominations are a direct reflection of the trust and confidence that their chain of command places in their ability to lead by example and support the broader strategic mission.

The Six Star Service Salute traces its origins to the 1941 founding of the United Service Organizations, when six civilian organizations—the Salvation Army, YMCA, YWCA, National Catholic Community Service, National Travelers Aid Association, and the National Jewish Welfare Board—united to support American service members during wartime. Today, the gala continues that proud legacy by celebrating service members who go above and beyond to ensure the force remains strong and supported.

As these Soldiers advance in their careers, they represent the future of the force: one shaped by resilience, adaptability,y and a profound sense of purpose. Through events like the Six Star Service Salute, Eighth Army reaffirms its unwavering commitment to developing the next generation of leaders who are not only technically proficient but essential to setting the theater and securing the Republic of Korea.
