KABUL – Afghan and coalition security forces detained two suspected insurgents in Helmand province overnight while in pursuit of a senior Taliban facilitator for insurgents operating in the Musa Qal’ah area.

The facilitator is involved in the smuggling, facilitation and movement of weapons and improvised explosive devices. He also finances Taliban commanders and uses his facilitation network to acquire weapons and munitions for them.

Intelligence led the security force to target a series of compounds north of Chulawyan in Musa Qal’ah district to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the joint security force cleared and secured the compound.

After initial questioning of the residents at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgents.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
