The 18th Wing welcomed the local community during America Fest 2026 at Kadena Air Base, Japan, April 11-12, 2026, offering visitors a closer look at the installation, its mission and its Airmen.
“To come on base and learn more about Kadena and our neighbors is always a pleasure,” said Kiya Masahiko, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan ambassador in charge of Okinawa Affairs. “The partnership between Kadena and the community is a vital one, and America Fest is the perfect opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to one another.”
The event drew more than 46,000 attendees and brought together units from across Kadena to engage with residents and highlight mission capabilities. This year’s event also coincided with the 250th anniversary of the United States, underscoring a legacy of partnership while looking toward the future alongside allies and partners.
“This year is a milestone for America - two hundred and fifty years of freedom and the pursuit of a more perfect union,” said Consul General Andrew Ou, U.S. Consulate General in Okinawa principal officer. “Celebrating it at America Fest with our U.S. military and host nation community was a once in a lifetime experience.”
In line with this year’s theme, “Stars, Cars, and Guitars,” America Fest featured participation from the local car enthusiast community. Alongside a traditional car show, Kadena hosted its first drifting demonstration where local drivers showcased advanced driving skills.
Additional attractions included the STEM hangar, where visitors explored science, technology, engineering and mathematics through interactive exhibits and hands-on engagement with military equipment. Live performances by local Eisa dancers, musical acts and the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific highlighted cultural exchange between the United States and Japan.
Guests also viewed static aircraft displays up close, including the C-130J Super Hercules and KC-135 Stratotanker. Airmen provided insight into aircraft capabilities, helping attendees better understand how Kadena supports regional security and operations.
“Our mission first and foremost is to ensure regional security and reinforce our commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific – our goal is to be good neighbors while carrying out that mission,” said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. John Gallemore, 18th Wing commander. “America Fest is our chance to showcase our mission to the community, and to provide them with a better understanding of how we operate and what we can do to support them.”
From the flight line to the festival grounds, America Fest offered more than a glimpse into Kadena’s mission: it created space for connection, where Airmen and community members came together, strengthening a partnership built on trust, shared experiences and a commitment to the future.
