For U.S. Army Spc. Lafrederick Conley, service is rooted in legacy, responsibility, and purpose.

“I want to bring honor and legacy to my family,” he said.

With a brother and uncle serving in the Marine Corps and a grandfather who once wore the Army uniform as a sergeant, military service was more than an option—it was a standard he chose to uphold and carry forward.

That sense of duty quickly evolved into a clear, personal mission. “I joined the Army because I wanted to buy my family a house one day—and now I achieved that goal,” he said.

What began as a vision became a tangible outcome, reflecting both discipline and commitment. For Conley, service is not only about wearing the uniform, but about creating stability and opportunity for the people who matter most.

At the core of his service is a mindset grounded in values.

“Selfless service. Lead by example,” he said, summarizing the principles that guide him daily. He also draws from a deeply personal foundation—his family creed: “PPP—Provide, Protect, Produce.”

These words are more than a phrase; they define how he approaches responsibility, leadership, and accountability both in and out of uniform.

Assigned to the 642nd Quartermaster Detachment, D.C. National Guard Conley embodies versatility and readiness. A Soldier first, he has taken on a wide range of roles including culinary operations, logistics, truck driving, radiation safety, and warehouse management. Each responsibility contributes to mission success, reinforcing his ability to adapt and perform wherever he is needed most.

Beyond individual roles, he recognizes the broader significance of his service. “It’s important for the protection of our country and way of life,” he said.

That understanding anchors his work in something greater than himself—a commitment to safeguarding the freedoms and security of others.

Some of the most defining moments of his career have unfolded in the Nation’s Capital. During his time working with the United States Fiscal Property Office, he found fulfillment in the direct impact of his duties.

“I enjoyed serving in my uniform completing tasks for our nation,” he said.

That experience, combined with his service in Washington, D.C., has instilled a deep sense of pride.

“The respect I received here… I enjoy working here. It gives me a sense of purpose and pride,” Conley said.

He also points to joining the U.S. Army National Guard as a pivotal moment—one that laid the foundation for his growth as a Soldier and as a professional.

His commitment to service extends beyond the military. In his civilian life, Conley is a volunteer community advocate in Hampton, Virginia, and a family business owner—roles that mirror his dedication to leadership, service, and community impact.

In the end, his motivation is both simple and powerful: “For the glory. I really love our country,” Conley said.

It is a statement that captures not only pride, but a deep and enduring commitment to something larger than himself.
