Fort Knox, Ky. — Members of the Fort Knox Fire Department honed survival techniques on March 19 that could save their lives.
They focused their efforts on Nance, Denver and ladder bailout drills.
According to David Pratt, Fort Knox Fire Department battalion chief, each of the drills are specifically designed to build firefighters’ proficiency in making a swift, tactful exit from a deteriorating environment.
“During a normal operation, whether we have everything under control or not, we will always put ladders on the sides of buildings for a secondary means of egress,” said Pratt. “Conditions within a fire can deteriorate quickly. When that happens, we have to be ready to get ourselves out.”
