Coast Guard breaking ice between St. Ignace, Mackinac Island

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — In accordance with 33 Code of Federal Regulations 165.901, the Captain of the Port Northern Great Lakes opened the waters separating Mackinac Island and St. Ignace, Michigan, March 19, 2026.

On the morning of March 24, 2026, Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay (WTGB 103) is set to break ice in the waters between St. Ignace and Mackinac Island. The Coast Guard reminds all recreational ice users that no ice is safe ice and to stay clear of shipping channels.
