Excellence doesn’t just happen; it’s earned through consistency and commitment. The 434th Air Refueling Wing Logistics Readiness Squadron exemplified the core values of the Air Force. Members of the team earned several Air Force Reserve Command logistics awards in recognition of their unwavering dedication to the Hoosier Wing.
Members of the Grissom team won the following awards:
The Daedalian Award
Fuels Management Civilian of the Year
Fuels Management NCO of the Year
“We’re kind of like the FedEx of the base,” said Capt. Tyler Mohr, commander of the 434th LRS. “Fuels Management is essentially the military equivalent of commercial fuel operations, energy logistics and aviation fueling.”
The 434th LRS earned their awards through exceptional mission support, innovative management and a focus on personnel readiness. They managed a $43.1 million vehicle fleet with a 93.2% mission capable rate and oversaw $110.5 million in equipment with zero losses, directly enabling 861 sorties and 3,400 flying hours. Their process improvements led to a 94% increase in cargo processing efficiency, a 35% reduction in reconciliation time and the recovery of $5 million in assets, saving over 1,200 man-hours annually.
“These guys were working at one o’clock in the morning,” said Capt. Robert Grasmick, the operations director for the LRS, with a prideful smile on his face. “Building pallets to support reserve and active-duty bases. They took service before self to a whole new level.”
Logistics directly enables mission execution and sustains operational readiness. Effective logistics acts as a force multiplier through efficiency and stewardship, saving millions of dollars by preventing the loss of critical parts and improving processes to save thousands of man-hours.
“Success lies within logistics,” said Mohr. “When we mobilize people, none of that could happen without logistics. We’re all about generating the mission” The 434th LRS is a shining example of the Air Force Core Values and continues to ensure Airmen are equipped to respond quickly and effectively in high-threat environments worldwide.
