Excellence doesn’t just happen; it’s earned through consistency and commitment. The 434th Logistics Readiness Squadron recently proved this by earning several major logistics awards from the Air Force Reserve Command, recognizing their exceptional performance and unwavering dedication to the Hoosier Wing.
"The line between disorder and order lies in logistics," said Capt. Tyler Mohr, the 434th LRS commander. "When we mobilize people, none of that could happen without us. We’re all about generating and sustaining the mission."
Mohr described LRS as the “FedEx of the base.”
The squadron is responsible for a vast array of critical functions, from managing fuels and vehicles to handling all cargo and traffic management.
The squadron's achievements were highlighted by their selection for the Daedalian Major General Warren R. Carter Logistics Effectiveness Award, a top honor recognizing the most effective logistics unit in the command.
Their award-winning year was built on a foundation of mission support and innovative management. The team managed a $43.1 million vehicle fleet, maintaining a 93.2% mission-capable rate, oversaw $110.5 million in equipment, and issued over 3.9 million gallons of aviation fuel. This directly enabled 861 sorties and 3,400 flying hours for the wing.
Furthermore, their process improvements yielded remarkable results: a 94% increase in cargo processing efficiency, a 35% reduction in reconciliation time, and the recovery of $5 million in assets, saving the Air Force over 1,200 man-hours annually.
This level of success was a direct result of the dedication of the Airmen themselves. Their commitment was recently demonstrated when they were called upon to support a real-world emergent requirement.
Captain Robert Grasmick, 434th LRS director of operations, highlighted this dedication, stating, "Members worked until one o’clock in the morning building pallets of cargo to support both reserve and active-duty bases. They took 'Service Before Self' to a whole new level."
This tireless effort, often extending late into the night, showcases the squadron's readiness and commitment to supporting the mission, wherever and whenever they are needed.
