KABUL, Afghanistan - Multiple intelligence reports and local tips led to a combined Afghan and coalition force operation resulting in the detention of two insurgents in Helmand province, Sept 6.
The combined force targeted a compound linked to two Taliban commanders prominent in an insurgent facilitation-and-finance network based in Band-e-Timor in Maiwand, but who have links throughout the Helmand and Kandahar provinces.
Also found in the search of the compound was six kilograms of wet opium and an AK-47 rifle.
The detainees were turned over to Afghan police to face possible criminal charges.
