Soldiers of 1-37 AR Meet the Challenge on the Southern Border

ALPINE, Texas--Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, part of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, are supporting federal border security efforts along the southern border. The battalion’s involvement contributes to a whole‑of‑government approach aimed at improving situational awareness, sustaining operational momentum, and strengthening coordination among military and federal agencies. By maintaining consistent data collection, information sharing and resource integration, the battalion enhances the collective ability to respond quickly and effectively to evolving mission requirements. Operating in support of U.S. Northern Command and in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, these Soldiers provide critical non-law-enforcement capabilities that allow U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel to focus on their primary duties. The battalion’s responsibilities include coordinating logistics, assisting with oversight of individuals who may be attempting to cross the border without authorization to augment observation efforts, and providing administrative support as needed. These functions help improve operational tempo and increase force utilization across the joint and interagency environment. During the mission, Soldiers face challenging conditions, including long work hours, difficult terrain and rapidly changing requirements. Battalion leadership emphasizes accountability, preparedness and adaptability to ensure Soldiers remain focused on the mission while maintaining safety and welfare standards.

Current border support operations remain scalable and responsive to national-level guidance, with Army units prepared to adjust capabilities as needed. For the Soldiers of 1-37 AR, the mission reinforces the 2nd Brigade’s commitment to supporting civil authorities and maintaining the trust of the American people.
