KIRKUK, Iraq - To assess how well the local government in Dibis near Kirkuk, Iraq, is running, U.S. Forces along with members of the Provincial Reconstruction Team attend the weekly district council meetings.
According to Capt. Benjamin Hart, who is the U.S. Forces representative at the Dibis district council meetings, the meeting he attended Aug. 18, sends a message of encouragement the people of Dibis.
“This particular meeting provided more information about projects than any meeting I have attended there before it was also well organized, when issues were brought up solutions were offered,” said Hart, commander of 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 25th Infantry Division out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
He explained this is important because it shows the leaders have faith and hope in the Government of Iraq which sends a message of encouragement to the people, said Hart, a Mt. Holly, N.C. native.
“These meetings demonstrate the willingness of the council to work towards solutions for the people,” said Hart.
He added attending these meetings further builds on the relationship between U.S. Forces and the community.
“A benefit is building strong relationships with the members and the community by showing that we care enough to show-up to their meetings and listen to problems,” he said.
