Fort Campbell, Ky.- On Feb. 4, 2026 626 Brigade Support Battalion (BSB), Division Sustainment Brigade (DSB), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), conducted a live fire exercise at Fort Campbell. Despite harsh winter weather conditions 626 BSB was able to train soldiers to qualify on their assigned weapons. “We wanted to test our soldiers to see if they could qualify on their assigned weapon even in harsh conditions,” said 1st Lt. Blaine Linton, Executive Officer for Bravo Company 626 BSB. Like the 101st in Bastogne, the soldiers in 626 BSB were met with freezing temperatures and icy grounds leftover from Winter Storm Fern. Soldiers who aren't combat arms don’t usually get the chance to conduct range training as often. Which is why Linton feels it's important for his unit to take advantage of the opportunity. “This base live fire is critical because it helps Soldiers better understand their weapons systems.” Said Linton. As soldiers went through three different rounds, first a dry round understanding the course followed up with a blank round, then proceeded with live rounds. Live base fire exercises help units prepare for real combat scenarios as they discover how to master their equipment, but also how to remain calm and think clearly and act as a unit. 626 BSB still finds ways to actively sharpen their soldiers skills and stay mission ready as 101st is one of the most frequently deployed divisions in the U.S. Army. “As sustainers our day to day job doesn’t involve combat so when we get these opportunities to familiarize ourselves with our weapons we appreciate them.” Said Linton “ it also prepares us for any ground combat that may occur so we fight as a unit”
