KABUL - The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the Taliban district commander for Darquad District was one of the insurgents targeted during an Afghan and coalition force operation in Takhar Friday.
Attallah, the Taliban district commander for Darquad District, was killed in the operation. He maintained contact with senior Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leaders in Pakistan and Takhar, Kunduz and Baghlan provinces.
Attallah recently stepped in as the deputy shadow governor for Takhar province, after the former deputy, Muhammad Amin, was killed in a precision air strike Thursday.
The operation was the same one which resulted in the capture of the Taliban military commissioner for six Takhar districts in the province. The commissioner facilitated foreign fighter suicide bombers
and led attacks against Afghan National Security Forces operating in Takhar.
