INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Kevin Wojtkiewicz is more than just a contract specialist at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Missouri.
Wojtkiewicz, a U.S. Navy Veteran, is willing to do whatever the mission requires.
“It’s a small group. We have a lot going on here. We all help each other,” he said. “I don't just sit here and look at contracts all day. I might have to help with some safety issues, or I might have to look into some security concerns.
“It's not just contract stuff,” Wojkiewicz added. “Everybody works hard here.”
After 10 years in the California local government, Wojkiewicz became a member of LCAAP’s workforce in March 2018, and he has shown unwavering initiative and devotion to duty.
“Kevin executes his primary contract administration duties in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the LCAAP contract, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and appropriate laws,” said Faye Neal-Kimble, Wojkiewicz’s immediate supervisor. “He provides accurate reports on contract performance and status of critical activities within established timeframes.
“Kevin consistently displays a willingness to assist his co-workers, peers, external stakeholders and senior leadership regarding contract administration support,” Neal-Kimble added. “Kevin is proactive, dependable and a team player who can be counted on to go above and beyond to get the job done. He diligently confronts contract challenges proactively and seeks recommendations to obtain a positive resolution.”
A government-owned, contractor-operated facility, LCAAP is one of 17 arsenals, depots, and ammunition plants that make up the Joint Munitions Command’s Organic Industrial Base. The Army Materiel Command, JMC’s higher headquarters, recently recognized Wojkiewicz as an employee of the quarter for the third quarter, fiscal year 2025.
The AMC EOQ program honors both civilian and military staff whose efforts have significantly contributed to the advancement of the enterprises’ mission. Furthermore, this initiative seeks to cultivate a culture of success and productivity, thereby improving the workplace atmosphere and supporting essential objectives such as enhancing employee retention and boosting engagement.
“It was unexpected,” Wojkiewicz said of the recognition. “I don't ever really look for awards, so it kind of caught me off guard, but it's pretty cool.”
Last spring, Wojkiewicz created a financial spreadsheet to track and record progress bill payments and management of Unliquidated Funding Obligations. He reconciled 123 Contract Line-Item Numbers on the ULO tracking spreadsheet for de-obligated funding to be reprogramed resulting in savings of $150,000. Additionally, Wojtkiewicz processed monthly a minimum of three to five progress bills with values ranging from $10M-$32M.
The Defense Contract Audit Agency and Defense Contract Management Agency have both acknowledged Wojkiewicz’s exceptional records management and meticulous local audits.
“The thoroughness of his record keeping and facilitating detailed support documentation is essential in contract oversite of LCAAP’s operating contractor,” Neal-Kimble said of Wojkiewicz. “His efforts reflect his selfless service and dedication to the overall LCAAP and JMC mission. His contributions are key in developing and delivering solutions to meet AMC’s No. 1 priority of strategic readiness.”
