SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Col. Laen August is learning a lot about being a wing commander, but most recently he got to share some of that knowledge with legislators on Capitol HIll.
As a yearly requirement, Air Force Reserve Command encourages wing commanders t to visit their federal legislators in order to inform them about activities at bases in their districts.
August made the visit on April 25-26 visiting six federal legislators from all over North Carolina.
For two days, August talked with Congressman Price, Congressman Miller, Congressman Jones, Congressman Ellmers, and staffers from Congressman Butterfield and Senator Burr's offices. August talked about the success of the 916th Air Refueling Wing as a Total Force Initiative wing and thanked the legislators for the funding they provide for programs such as Yellow Ribbon and the National Guard and Reserve Equipment Accounts.
In addition to the visit, the traditionally part-time vice wing commander who is filling in as the full-time wing commander through the summer, learned quite a lot about the Res9erve Policy Integration Office and the inner workings of Capitol Hill and how our nation's decisions are made.
Overall the visit was a huge success and legislators are looking at potentialvisit to the 916th ARWlater this summer.
