FORT HOOD, Texas — North Fort Hood can be a quiet and sometimes lonely place, especially for Soldiers who are deploying or demobilizing. Service members may spend three to four weeks on the installation with limited entertainment options beyond the Rec Center, the MOB Physical Fitness Center, and the North Fort Hood Chapel.
The North Fort Hood Chapel offers Sunday worship services to support Soldiers of different faiths:
Buddhist Worship: Sundays at 8:30 a.m.
Protestant Worship: Sundays at 10 a.m.
Catholic Worship: Sundays at 11:30 a.m.
For more information, service members can call 254-286-5223, as service times may be subject to change. The chapel is open daily from 9 a.m. to midnight, providing internet access, a quiet place to pray for all faiths, or a relaxing space to unwind. Additional chapel activities include Cigar Night every Tuesday at 7 p.m., Tea for the Soul gathering.
The North Fort Hood Rec Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and offers free internet access, four large-screen televisions, a ping-pong table, and two pool tables.
For those looking to stay active, the North Fort Hood Physical Fitness Center is open daily from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. The facility features free weights, cardio machines, and an indoor running track. A weightlifting competition is held every fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m., giving soldiers an opportunity to stay motivated and engaged during their time on base.
