United Nations Command acknowledges the successful recovery of the remains of 25 Korean War
service members and nearly 2,000 artifacts during the recent excavation at White
Horse Ridge within the Demilitarized Zone. This operation, conducted in close
coordination with the Republic of Korea Ministry of National Defense, reflects UNC’s
crucial role in facilitating safe access and oversight in this armistice-controlled area.
These efforts are part of UNC’s ongoing commitment to upholding the Korean War
Armistice Agreement, honoring the sacrifice of those who fought under the U.N. flag
and alongside the Republic of Korea. Through continued collaboration with ROK forces and multinational partners, UNC ensures that operations comply with armistice procedures and that recovered
remains and artifacts are treated with the utmost dignity. These sustained efforts
demonstrate the enduring multinational dedication to returning fallen service
members to their families. UNC remains steadfast in supporting the memory of all
who served and the vision of lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
United Nations Command will continue to support these critical operations and foster
cooperation with all partners committed to this shared legacy and responsibility.
