Los Angeles-native Recognized as Warfighter of the Week Aboard USS George Washington

By Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Garret Nelson

SOUTH CHINA SEA – Los Angeles-native Personnel Specialist 3rd Class Jing Shi was recognized as Warfighter of the Week aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), Nov. 21, 2025.

Warfighter of the Week is a command program where the ship’s captain personally recognizes an exemplary Sailor for their accomplishments.

Shi was selected by her leadership for her extraordinary commitment to the mission from the timely processing of seperation/retirement packages, directly contributing to the smooth transition for sailors transitioning from military to civilian life.

When asked why she joined, Shi said, “I joined the Navy to learn different cultures and to travel around the world.”

Her favorite part of her job is helping out Sailors by fixing their pay issues.

She has served in the Navy for two years, and is a 2011 graduate of The 88th High School.

George Washington is the U.S. Navy’s premier forward-deployed aircraft carrier, a long-standing symbol of the United States’ commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region, while operating alongside allies and partners across the U.S. Navy’s largest numbered fleet.
