FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii - U.S. Soldiers from across the island of O'ahu learned the importance of postal operations during the Postal Operations Course on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Sept. 18, 2025.

“This class is important because mail equals morale,” said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Joshua Corll, a student assigned to the Personnel Accountability Division, Theater Personnel Operations Center, 8th Theater Sustainment Command. “These will be the people that are qualified to handle that mail, in all environments.”

The 8th TSC TPOC coordinated a mobile training team from the Interservice Postal Training Activity, Soldier Support Institute, based out of Fort Jackson, South Carolina, to teach a five-week course. The students gained in-depth knowledge and practical experience in various critical areas, including processing both domestic and international mail, handling money orders, managing postal supplies and funds, operating postal service centers, how to handle registered mail, and preparing transportation documentation.

“Postal is important because you become that connection between Soldiers and their loved ones,” said Sgt. 1st Class Shaterri Wright, the Senior Army Liaison from IPTA, SSI.

These skills are vital in providing reliable postal support to service members and their families worldwide. These operations ensure information and connection even in the most austere environments, strengthening these Soldier’s morale for any situation in the Indo-Pacific.

“This (postal services) is what enables commanders to stay informed and boost the morale of all Soldiers,” said Corll.

Through this training service members are prepared to not just move mail, but to move morale - delivering connection, comfort, and readiness.
