FORT KNOX, Ky. – The remains of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Junior J. Shelton, 24, killed during World War II, will be interred Oct. 4, in Springdale Cemetery, in his hometown of Sebree, Kentucky. Tomblinson Funeral Home will coordinate graveside services preceding the interment.
Shelton was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. He was reportedly killed in action on Oct. 4, 1944 after his company encountered German enemy forces near Hatterath, Germany. His remains were not accounted for after the battle.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency accounted for Shelton on April 25, 2025.
