KABUL - Afghan and coalition forces conducted a combined operation resulting in the detention of more than 10 individuals with suspected insurgent links in Sangin, Helmand province today.
The target of the operation was a Taliban commander who is a key coordinator of insurgent operations in Helmand. He is also responsible for daily operations in an improvised explosive device factory in Sangin.
"The detention of this commander will severely degrade the attack and facilitation network in Sangin. This detention could also provide significant leads on IED and weapons facilitation routes throughout Helmand," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
