Pennsylvania To Pay Tribute to WWII Airman Killed in Action in 1943

FORT KNOX, Ky. – The remains of U.S. Army Air Forces Sgt. Sidney Burke, 22, killed during World War II, will be interred Sept. 29, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghanies in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Paul Henney Cremation and Funeral Tributes will coordinate graveside services preceding the interment.

Burke was a member of 22nd Bombardment Squadron (Medium), 341st Bombardment Group (Medium), 10th Air Force during World War II. On Aug. 3, 1943, Burke was killed when his B-25C “Mitchell” bomber crashed during a low-altitude bombing raid in Meiktila, Burma. His remains were not recovered after the war, and he was declared missing in action.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency accounted for Burke on April 18, 2025.
