KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces operating near the village of Charqolba Olya in the Arghandab District of Kandahar province were attacked with small-arms fire by insurgents Aug. 17.
After the combined forces gained positive identification of the insurgents, they returned fire to suppress the threat. As a result of the engagement, an Afghan civilian was shot and killed while irrigating a crop field.
Coalition forces plan to conduct a shura with local elders.
The incident remains under investigation.
