BADGHIS PROVINCE, Afghanistan — An Afghan male was robbed of property and shot in the foot by an insurgent in Badghis province Aug. 15.

After discovering that he had been robbed, the victim from Darrah-I-Bum village, Qades District, confronted the insurgent suspected of robbing him. During the confrontation, the insurgent shot the robbery victim in the foot.

“Insurgents in the area knew the man had a pair of binoculars in his home and sent someone in to take them while he was away,” said a Marine Special Operations Team member working in the area.

The MSOT team member said the man was treated by military medical personnel and was evacuated to a nearby medical facility for further treatment.

“This callous and reckless behavior by the insurgents is yet another example of their utter disregard for the lives and property of the Afghan people—the same people they say they want to protect,” said Marine Sgt. Brian Kester, a CJSOTF-A spokesman.
