Marine Artillery Detachment Relief and Appointment Ceremony

FORT SILL, Oklahoma - A relief and appointment ceremony marked a transition for the U.S. Marine Corps Artillery Detachment at Fort Sill, Okla., Aug. 13.

Members of Team Sill gathered in Snow Hall to recognize Sgt. Maj. Lawrence P. Fineran's contributions to Team Sill as the detachment sergeant major.

Fineran held the position since March 22, 2008. He will report to Okinawa, Japan.

Sgt. Maj. Joe A. Thornton was appointed as the detachment's new sergeant major during the ceremony. Thornton previously served in Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29.

Prior to the relief and appointment ceremony, Maj. Gen. David D. Halverson, commanding general of the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill, presented Fineran the Army Commendation Medal.
